: I wish to add outriggers + sail to a small sit on top (2.85m)kayak.If
: possible i wish to have the outridders and mast all mounted fron a common
: point at the front so the outriggers would extend from the bow 2/3 of the
: way to the stern so that i am free to row as normal.
: Does it affect performance having the pontoons at the fron and the rudders
: more forward than a central rudder at the rear. We will be using a small
: windsurf sail and speed is not paramount
: Any info or feedback appreciated

Take this with a big grain of salt as i know only rudementry sailing concepts.
If you place your mast/sail to far foward you will have to fight the tendency of the sail forcing your bow down into the water thus affecting performance. Having more floatation up front from the pontoons may counteract this but my gut tells me she will handle like a wash tub. With sailing canoes the mast is usually stepped 1/3 to 1/2 way back from the bow and the canoeist sits in the stern to keep the bow from diving in. Unfortunatly with the nature of kayak paddling this isn't as easy to achieve. You may be able to build a double with a mast between cockpits and the sail her solo.
good luck, keep us posted.
Cheers
Rick
