Peter,
We recently carved a seat for my Merganser. The bandsaw did not have enough clearance to stand the seat up to cut the bottom fit for the hard chine. Our solution was a japanese saw...my husband says it is called an "Akita" (I hope I spelled that right). We put held the seat on end on the workbench, marked the angle with tape around all edges, and sliced off two wedges. I attacked the top with a Dremel with a circular cutting blade. It made for a nice smooth surface, albeit with many many dimples. It's THE most comfortable seat.
