Back to work on the Redfish Silver. Been dithering with the Celtic knotwork pattern I posted earlier, and finally have all the crosscut sleds, glue jigs and sanding fixtures built, and here is the first acceptable mockup. The species are yellow cedar for the deck infill, redwood for the knotwork, Western red cedar for the hull and deck sheer, and oak veneer for the accents (you have to look closely to see them, where the knotwork pattern crosses itself, to give the illusion of 3-dimensionality). The block is glued up from the 3/8" sticks shown next to it in the pic, and will then be bandsawed like a loaf of bread into 1/4" thick discrete knots for placement on the boat. The block in the pic has been sanded flat on the bottom already, and will next be sanded flat on the other three sides. These knots will run nearly the full length of the sheer, up and over the bow and stern, and all connected to each other. The knots on the sheer will be bandsawed to the arc of the nearest form, to save material and shaping time.
