As first time builders my 11-year old son and I completed a Pygmy Tern 14 s&g kit in 2 1/2 months--about 45 hours total time over that period. It was quite simple to do and required very little space and tools. Principal advantages of plywood boats are that they are easy to build, hard to mess up, very strong and light (wonderful in the water), and there's virtually no setup time or expense.
Of course, now I'm hooked and have a stripper underway. See you next year!
