: So are you saying the best way to "size up " a boat is soly by a
: person's weight
: and how much water that weight will displace? Size of person does't matter?
: What about area of displacement? How do you figure design from just useing
: weight?
: I am confused again, sorry.
It is my belief that weight is the first design criteria. Size is right up there but it is secondary for the overall performance of the boat. If someone has really narrow hips but weighs a lot they may need to make their boat a little wider to carry the weight than might be optimum for a snug fit. If they don't want to make the boat wider, they will need to make it longer. Either that or accept the fact that it will float lower in the water. You can not ignore weight, and you don't want to ignore fit, so start with your weight and do what you need to do to make it fit. This may require a series of tradeoffs, but just since dealing with displacement is a little more complicated than just measuring your size, does not mean you should ignore it.
