Gyroscopic effects do affect stability of bicycles (take your front wheel off and try to make it stand up. You can keep it upright longer when it's rolling than when it's stationary, right?); they are just not as strong as the effects of steering geometry, mainly trail. I read somewhere where a guy mounted a second front wheel beside the first and rigged it to spin the same speed but in the opposite direction so as to cancel the gyroscopic effects. It was still rideable and fairly comfortable as long as the trail remained positive.
