Don, you're in luck. Thanks to the West Michigan Canoe and Kayak Association and their lobbying efforts, canoes and kayaks don't need to be licensed here in Michigan.
Have a fun weekend!
Dean
: I am putting the finishing touches on a 20' Grand Laker canoe and plan to
: introduce it to water in the next week. (Yes, I realize it's not a kayak,
: but you guys are such a helpful lot...) I live in Oklahoma, but have the
: opportunity to haul it to Michigan for a family camping reunion. The
: License process takes 4-6 weeks in OK and will not be completed by the
: time we leave. Can anyone out there share the rules in Michigan for
: canoes? Will it need to be licensed to be legal on rivers or lakes? Any
: info would be appreciated.
