I'm older and wider too, ( 58, 5' 11" 250#), but I don't think I'd go any wider than 24", unless he was really wide. If he can get into something like an "Animas", (the only ww boat I'm comfy in), he'd be fine w/ 24".
I'm building a Georgian Bay, cuz I think it will be big enough. I sure hope so!

BTW, I finally got the hull stripped. It only took 15 months! I'll post pics when its been faired and ready for glass. I'd wait till it's glassed, but at my rate of progress, that could be a looooong while!
