I used the ratchet tie down straps method on my second Ches. this winter. I created terrible over bowing at the aft bulkhead by doing this. Since I was working from the book, and not from a kit, I cut the deck panels out with plenty of room for error. Guess what? That alone was a big error. When I cranked down on that strap, it caused the center of the deck panel to pop up way high of the bulkhead, and since I had cut such a tiny cut out for the cockpit (again leaving too much room for mistakes) I didn't see this grievous error until the ring nails were all in, and the epoxy kicked. While it did allow me to put on the deck by myself, and not have to listen to any whining from my erstwhile assistant (read 16 y.o. son), it didn't solve the gap problem. I ended up cutting a new bulkhead panel to match the new radius, and epoxied that to the old one on the cockpit side so that you can't see how ugly the gap was, but the aft deck is definitely not low and sleek like it is on the first one I built this winter.
