I've been trying to decide which footbrace design to go with; probably a stationary Yakima brace with toe flaps like Lee is describing. This is a thread on this subject http://www.kayakforum.com/cgi-bin/Building/index.cgi?read=45659 from several weeks ago. Todd Bradshaw's book Canoe Rig has some interesting foot-flap/rudder configurations... you may have noticed: I can't say enough good things about that book :)

Good luck with it Lee. I'll definitely be using one of these steering options.
