The Oregon State Marine Board is independantly funded (or at least it used to be) solely by boater registration fees. And whether we want to admit it or not, we do use the facilities. We go to the parks, we use the ramps. If the state gathers funds from kayakers, in theory it will be obligated to fund more facilities for same, and that is a good thing.
It isnt paying a fair share that I disagree with; it's that I think $15/boat is not a fair share for a group who, on the average, owns several boats each. And I whole heartedly disagree with having to put the ugly seal, and 3" numbers, on our boats. That's just ludicrous. Put the seal inside, and forego the numbers.
Of course, if it's totally out of line, I just wont register my boats. It isnt like the state has a lot of money to enforce it.
: I would like to support the concurring opinions that the fee and requirements
: for registration seem to tax the least intrusive users of our waterways.
