It is my experience that paddlefloat rescues are almost always accomplished by having the paddle located on the rear deck... this way you can enter the cockpit feet first and twist around into a sitting position. You also want the paddle in your hand so you can react to the water conditions that are no doubt rough.

I do like the idea of a paddle holder, so what I plan to do is put some velcro on my spray skirt (hook side) and some on the shaft (loop side)... This way there is no hook to snag me if I do a wet exit or trying to get back in.
