A scorp would work... It's a tool used (among other things) for hollowing out the seat on a wooden chair. It looks like a sharp hoop on a handle.
A curved drawknife would work as well. Depending on what you are doing, you might also be able to wrap sandpaper around a large plastic pop bottle and use the curv of the bottle as a guide.
A medium soft ball (not a "softball") would work for those places where you are dealing with a compound curve...
