Do the cockpit flat. It is tedious to strip, but it is really nice to have a place for your knees to brace against. It also stiffens the deck considerably right around the cockpit, which is likely to be a stressed area. Finally, it just plain looks better.

You dont even need a glue gun. I used super glue "gel"
