Polypro wets out ok to show the wood, though if the fabric pulls away from the wood it will show. When my canoe got wrapped, the end of one thwart popped out, but the fabric did not tear. The wood core strips were cracked in a few places and the bottom is not as resilient as it used to be unfortunately. But the boat held together where I'm sure a fiberglass one would have been wrecked.

Not familiar with syntex. Somebody once gave me some Spectra scraps; looked like polypro, is it similar?
