Thin the Flagship down, and avoid a hot dry day (easy to say up here in the rainforest). Does Z-Spar make semi-gloss or satin?
BTW, the tanlines you refer to might just be the wood reacting to UV and the heated epoxy. Still good to varnish before paddling. Once wet and seaweed encrusted, the urge to varnish drops off the horizon
