I finished my Coho earlier this year. After completing the boat, I think that getting a good varnish coat is probably the most demanding part of the construction process.
One quart of varnish is enough for about 4 coats, top & bottom. There is alot of good varnishing wisdom in the archives. I used foam brushes with clipper clear varnish. I strained each batch before use, and used a tack rag on the boat to remove dust. Using this method the varnish work came out O.K. I confess that once fall hits I will probably take the time to sand the hull out and give it another 3 - 4 coats. I might even try Spideys rag method now that the base coats are down.
