: crossing a bay towed by a kite without a paddler. The paddler was
: eventually found dead miles upwind. It would appear that he capsized and
: the kayak went off without him.

My catamaran posed the same kind of danger. When the sails were cleated down the double rudders were so stiff that if I were to fall off the cat it wouldn't come into the wind on its own and would just sail off into the sunset. I sailed several years before this scary thought entered my mind.
