Kurt:
I recently purchased the Saris racks and the watersport carriers for a VW Golf GTI. They fit my kayak well (multi-chined).
The reason I got the Saris instead of Thule or Yakima is that you can *easily* put on and take off the Saris racks. I really didn't want racks semi-permanently installed on my car because of the noise and lower gas mileage. I can get both racks on my car in 5 minutes or less, and off in 2 minutes, so I only put them on when I need them. I leave the watersports cradles attached to the racks, since they the whole deal is only on the car when I need to transport my kayak.
They look nice, and appear well made, but I haven't had them long enough to vouch for longevity.
I recommend them if you are looking for racks that are truly removable.
Tom
