I'd bet vacuum-bagging that Dynel would make it much lighter and smoother. With a good peeler ply, you wouldn't have much sanding to do.

I think it would be a good thing to use with Kevlar felt, too; that stuff is like a sponge.

When putting kevlar felt skid plates on canoes, I wet out the felt, then cover it with Saran wrap and press it flat. The Saran wrap is like "Poor man's vacuum bagging" in that it keeps air out, so you can press excess air bubbles and epoxy to the sides, without it trying to suck in more air/epoxy and expand on you.
