I have a solid spruce and solid pine . It is a bit heavy but very strong -- usual mistake for the first one.
I glued a red wood and spruce with the loom mostly spruce ( thin strips of redwood on two outside edges just for look) -- again on the heavy side.
May build a cedar the next time.
