Foster and Roger,

I have the Bosch, I think it's model 1594, mine is the model with the barrel grip. I am very pleased with the saw and its performance, but...when you cut your panels for your boat the idea is to cut close to the lines you have drawn for your layout and then use your block plane to bring the panels to the exact shape. The boat that I am working on is my first and I was pleasantly surprised at how precise you can get with the block plane and how little time it took even in places where I had wandered further away from my layout lines.

Bottom line IMO...if you are only going to build a boat or two and you don't expect to do other woodworking projects, your old second hand jigsaw with a fine-tooth metal cutting blade will more than likely be adequate, do a few test cuts on some scrap lauan and see if you are happy with the results, before you spring for the new saw.

If you are like me and enjoy woodworking and are planning your next boat(s) before you finish the one your working on then go for the new saw, I don't think that you can go wrong with either Bosch or Porter Cable.

A "sharp" block plane IS a beautiful thing!!!
