: if you have an open fitting(like w/ a hole(padeye) or a loop) somewhere near
: at hand say in front of you: 2 methods: 1/ if the fitting hole is small
: tie a whipped say 3 in loop inl the end of the towing line and 5 ft away
: tie in a caribiner (or clip or plastic downrigger clip) to the same line.
: loop thru fitting, attach to carabiner (or clip). the tow rope is the
: harness.

: 2/if the hole is large, put the clip(carabiner etc) in the end of the line
: and tie in a loop(if forget the knot name) 5ft away or so. clip thru
: fitting hole into line loop.

couple of other simpler even
firstly, i guess the loop got to be abt 7ft or so away (perimeter + slack)for those in the previous post. the loop is called the butterfly knot

For the setup do the large part first and swing yak over the line, then do the fitting/attaching, then you aren't holding the line when trying to do gross moves.

for these ones the butterfly loop is abt 10-11ft away from the free end:
1/ so you're across the towline, just bring the free end under any deckline (or both) or any loop fitting or padeye or ubolt somewhere between your toes and knees.(in a real pinch(probably real, too?) maybe just use the front of the coaming-quick release here in case of entrapment) ,and tie it off to the butterfly loop w/ a half hitch looped back up to the cockpit. so if you pull this about 3ft free end the half hitch unties itself.

2/same setup as above, line over deck thru any fitting or line handy, and thread the free end thru the butterfly loop back up to a cam or jam cleat in the deck somewhere. the 'harness' probably'll work (that is, it will slip from side to side) semi-ok, and you have a good attach pt.
