Mark, if your question is part of another thread forgive me for jumping in, If this is the outside of the kayak then the fill coats should fill the weave enough that sanding doesn't cut into the glass, I find that can be two medium thickness of epoxy assmuming that the glass was wetted out smoothly, usually three thin coats does it economically without too much sanding or cutting into the glass.
