Greg,
Ouch. Banging ones head on the ice would indeed be painful. Hey your supposed to put ice on the wound, not use it to create one :D

Qu-2002 sounds like a blast. I caught a few vignettes of the last ones. That would be huge fun. The rope gymnastics that go with it are just incredible!!!

Disko is indeed beautiful. In fact it defys descrition. My favorite memory is being way off shore, and watching the atmospheric inversions happening from sometimes humdreds of miles away.

The air cold and clear works the horizon sunlight in a way that acts like a lense. Bouncing between sky and ocean it inverts as if it was going through a telescope lense. As a result, we could hundreds of miles out to sea and be looking at the mountianous coast of Greenland .....upside down. We weren't seing the actual just a projection from this odd atmospheric condition. Its an odd thing to stand watch on an old freighter wanting to yell land-ho because it looks so real and yet at the same time see Mt's standing on their peaks. Knowing its all phantom. I found I had to look at the radar screen once in a while to prove to myself there wasn't a coast line close by....

Sounds like you have been there, and thus I'm sure you know the incredibly singularness of this place. If you go, a cool addition to the trip might be to paddle Sondrestrom Fjord. Most entry flights land in Sonde then ya get shuttled around. The fjiord is 90 miles long, wicked fast and deeply walled. Lots of boat traffic to bring you back up. It would be a very easy trip to add if you already flying in and out of the area.

Man what I would give to climb Mount Thule one more time :)
Hope you get to go. Take a spin on the blanket toss for me;)
