Hi Rob,
I worked a a Carpenter for 20 years and used both Kinds of "Skill Saws". The worm drive or Hydrapoyd saw is more powerfull and can cross cut or ripe with great ease, but it sure can get heavy over the long haul. Unless your going to be doing alot of cutting go for the standard saw, try the Black & Decker Pro model(I think that's it's name) great saw, cutes like crazy, depending on the blade you use. NEVER cheap out on blades, I have seen many people not satisfied with a new saw because they spent $10.00 on cheap blades.
