: Bill,
: Wasn't trying to humble you! I was just stating how my Coho was done (4 years
: ago). The multichine hull probably needs more reenforcement than the
: single chine Tern. Maybe they have seen CLC's success, not fully glassing
: hard chined hulls. But, what about the deck? Do Tern's only have epoxy (no
: tape) on the inside of the deck?

: Larry

I am just finishing my first boat,a Coho. The current instructions appear to be consistent with the Tern- instructions are to stop the glass an inch above the seam between panels 3&4,ie, a few inches below the hull-deck seam. I'm sure this is strong enough, and saves weight, but I would have liked to glass all the way up (then again, I also fill-coated the interior, contrary to instructions- just liked the idea of having a smooth, and perhaps a bit stronger inside- but my finish weight looks like it will only come in 2-3 pounds over spec, so I'm not too extreme).

re the diagonal cut and mid-boat overlap of glass on the interior(and exterior deck): I'm all for cost and resource savings, waste reduction, but I found it difficult to get the coverage- had about a quarter inch to spare on the deck. Also, there is an overlap which won't be too unsightly, but next boat (thinking tern 14 for wife/children, day boat for me if my feet can fit) I'm thinking basic kit and I'll buy enough glass to do the inside hull and outside deck in onepiece. I also wonder if a fillet on the inside deck seams plus full glass would be as strong, and not much heavier- I found working with tape difficult.
