: reach and so I thought I would give it one more squeegy epoxy coat to help
: fill the low areas and then let the varnish do the rest of the filling if

The varnish will not provide any filling and will actually make the surface imperfections more obvious. Any imperfections you don't want to live with must be filled with epoxy and sanded smooth. Using a fairing board will produce the most wave free surface. Check the archives, this has been a popular topic.
