My 11 y.o. son loved the Perception Umiak....a seaworthy kayak built for kids and small adults...a great choice. We are building two kayaks...so....have purchased an inflatable to 'hold us over' till next spring. We bought a Stearns 2-man on ebay....for about $350....usually sells for about $450-550. You can pick up a Stearns single for about $200 from what I have seen. I was really impressed with the handling and durability of the Stearns....steers with ease...tracks great...is light....easy to pack...best of luck on your trip.
