I just use sanding dust, collected out of the cheezy collecter filter on my DeWalt ROS. I know it has a little sandpaper fibers and silica in it, but that doesnt seem to affect the color at all.
Bandsaw dust is a nice consistancy, too. Even tablesaw dust if you run it thru a fine mesh screen would work, but that's a PITA.
