Well not exactly rescue conditions. Last fall when putting the boat away we decided to test fire the never used 15 year old plastic Orion flare pistol. Having purchased new cartridges I thought we should try one of the 15 year old shells. Worked fine and we went back to our decommissioning. After about 15 minutes we noticed the grass fire . . .

If you can purchase your flares at a retail store do so. Mail order usually involves a hazardous material shipping charge.
