Go as far as you can before it starts to wrinkle, then cut the strip and start a new piece, overlapping the first a bit. It doesn't matter if you use one continuous piece or a dozen short ones, as long as the joint betweent he strips overlap and are glued as well as you glue the strip to the hull.
You might want to round the corners of the pieces so you don't have any square corners that might get snagged.
