: There is a running thread on footpegs and footrests, and another on lowering
: the volume inside a kayak. The combination got me to thinking.
: What is the concensus on using a sea sock with foot rests or foot operated
: controls, like bilge pumps and rudder pedals?
: Does a seasock get in the way or not?
: PGJ
can't respond w/ experience but,
seems to me that nicks/erics footbrace/pedal would be the absolute best w/ a seasock. (don;t have to search around for the pegs/rest) maybe therefor a small foam 'bulkhead' at the inside end of the sock would even work to keep the sock open a bit. hard to adjust the pedals unless the loop came under the seat up to the behind the coaming to jam.
the concept of the seasock is interesting, but i wonder if in use, we could make it so not so floppy. other than waterproof(to some degree) the main idea is only that it is removable to stow stuff inside. so maybe some stiffnes or something like that is desireabel. like those spiral wire filled ducts, could one sew a few ribs inside? or stiffen the fabric? or put rope filled seams in that slide in a channel or 2? INside webbing w/ velco to lengthen, shorten?
at its most perfect, the airspace betweent the inside yak and the sock/ll keep it volumetrically in place, but the ribs'd maybe keep it from hugging.the simplicity of nicks footbrace say even attached at the end of the sock might even be workable.
or what if a tube was sewn at the end of the sock, the inside centre of the sock was a lockable pcl of webbing, the lines went thru the tube and with the ribs you dont even need a footbrace or rudder pedals cause every thing is totally adjustable. the pedal system just pulls back like before, but you could steer from any location. so the seasock also includes the rest and the steering pedals completely adjustable.
that might just be the shzt hot best coolest simplest most flexible way to do everything all with one dumb old seasock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyway i don;t know for sure.
