I plan on running two 1 1/8" outside dia. round conduit pipes across the car and into the oak side rails. On that will fit 4 Yakima Kayak Saddles I got off of E-bay.

Have you considered 3/4" black pipe used for bar clamps/gas lines. I think it would be stronger then conduit piping. There is considerable loads placed on roof rack bars at highway speeds and I have even managed to bend Yakima's bars when pushing therewieght limit of 100 Lbs per cross bar. Just a thought.
