Great link, thanks. Searching on the web for "abalone" brings up a lot of gourmet food and not much inlay stuff. Also try warmoth.com- they sell it by the ounce. Here's a wood inlay link for you that you probably already have. http://www3.sympatico.ca/g.varga/Inlay.htm I'll add it as a link on this thread but in case it messes up I put it here so you can copy and paste. They sell inlaid strips and marquetry. If you don't want to do all the chopping and gluing for a decorative strip you can use an inlay strip instead. Part of the arrow's shaft will be inlaid. I have not yet decided on the way to do this... 1. plane a strip down slightly and glue the inlay strip to it prior to installation, or 2. route a groove after the hull is stripped and inlay the decorative strip in the groove. This is best done with a hand-plane. Luckily I inherited some planes made for inlaying bands and they have various size blades. Set the blade for the depth you need and tack a guide strip along the line you want to plane. I will post pics, but it will take some time before I get to that stage.
