Goooooooood Morning John,
Its in there.... Just not in the form you thinking of. My ditching kit is designed with things that I can use to cover most post emergent situations. Your right a food stealing bear/coon/chipmunk/etc could be an issue. If you hav lost all your food theree isn't goingto be much of a problem with a black bear. As for the other big guys up north well thats a different set of problems.

However, In a situation of having lost everything. Seeing a bear actually is not all bad. Seeing a bear means our in a nutrient rich environment. IT takes a lot ot keep a bear fed. ISeeing ones means your in a good location for foraging.
Also in a post emergent situation a maurading critter is more likely an opportunity.

In my ditch kit are a number of tools that can be used or combined to ward off, or outsmart an opportunist criter intent on sharing my lunch or....... afford me the option of being the oportunist. i.e. welcome the criter to dinner.... :)

Most of what I have in the kit isn't designed for one purpose. In order to make the kit items have to support my ability to make the things I need or serve double duty.

Look in that list again, and I think you will see a couple of bear deterents in the kit, and things that can be used to confound a bear trying to get to my treasures. ITs all in there, Good luck with the puzzling!
