I came by this tip a few years ago by hearing the sad tale of a (male) friend who drove his car into the garage with his $2000 bike on the roof rack. oops.

A few months ago, a colleague had told me the sad tale of having crunched a garage door by trying to back her car out of the garage without having opened the garage door first....to which my first thought is, "why would you even start the car before you opened the door?" Open door, then start car.

In a perfect world, I'd live in a place where the garage door was tall enough to provide clearance for boats on top of my pickup.... but in the meanwhile, I'm happy to live in a place where the garage is large enough to store all the boats I could possibly build, and more.
