Both edges are the same, and just sharp enough to be comfortably gripped. Only the center of the blade is flatter on one side. Sculling and rolling are Ok with both sides, the difference is marked only in the forward stroke. Looking at the blade the difference is not dramatic.
I was really surprised that the difference was there for the forward stroke, but that no problems appeared with other strokes.
