Nicely stated. We often compare stiffness and strength, but we also need to look at strain to failure, and the loading mode/geometry to determine the how loads are shared in the structure. Dynel is one solution to this problem that I had not considered (assumed that Chip would want the transparancy of glass). The failure strain of glass fiber is low, but the stiffness and failure strain of a composite can be adjusted through fiber orientation with respect to the primary load.
