Oak racks rail with rubber pads and you see the clips made of 1" wide flat steel stock and dipped in rubber plastic coating for rust and car-mar protection. Bolts will go through the clips into the wood at about a 30 degree angle to pull the rack out and down tight to the car roof. On the back side of the wood rack rails, the 1/4" drill holes will be cut out larger for flats for washers and bolt nuts to seat into. The pipes were originally to fit inside of the wood for a good clean look but I may not have enough clearence for my yakama saddles, and so I will probably have to mount them on top of the rails with bent steel hold downs of some sort. If I do mount on top of the rails I will seal the ends of the pipes with wood plugs and dip the ends in the rubber to make a better looking finish. Again thanks to Gordon for thinking up this idea.
