1/16" is the traditional tolerance for boat lofting. According to Allan Vaitses' book 'Lofting', a nice neat job of building is more important than perfect measurements. He goes on at some length about perfect station molds. He says that it is fine to shoot for finer tolerance but, when it comes time to lay down strips, you'll never get it that close.
