: My favorite -- Waldo in September & October.
: Chris
Chris, Waldo is our favorite as well (and has been, every year since '74). I fear it is being loved to death. Each year there seems to be a little bit less clarity in the water, a little more algae on the shoreline rocks. We have camped many times on the west side (wilderness), but have decided to restrict our tent site to Islet campground. Perhaps providing more instruction on latrine contruction/location would reduce the impact. Early season mosquitos are the area's best friends.
This year's drought should enhance the threat of the routine lightning shows. Our most memorable paddling experience at Waldo was an evening cruising the north shore at the source of the big fire. We watched it progress from a small smoke plume (lightning caused) to the "hell on earth" conflagration. It was a unique opportunity to get up close and personal to a tremendous force of nature.
