Is there enough clearance on the rear bar to compensate for the weight of the kayak and keep it from putting a huge dent in the roof of the car? It's hard to tell from the photo.
: Almost finished. I was able to get away with inserting the cross bars into
: the oak runners and pinned them with 3" screws through the top of the
: wood runners. There is no clearance on the back bar as it just touches the
: roof. I ended up using 1 1/8" outside dia. conduit pipe, painted with
: auto primer and three coats of thinned rubber tool diping material for a
: rust free and mar free bars and clips. I still have to drill 1/4"
: holes at a 45 degree angle for the bolts to fasten the rack to the clips,
: but the hard work is over. The saddles are Yakima LandShark Saddles and I
: made a good buy on e-bay for them.
: What is the best way to carry a Kayak, right side up or upside down? Thanks.
: John
