I started a modified cormorant with 1/8" lauan doorskins from a local supplier. it was $9-10 a sheet. It definately had a bunch of voids but I shined a clamp light behind the sheets and circled them and used some creative cuttng. If you are not bending the panels much it shouldn't be a problem. you could inject some thickened epoxy into the voids after it is stiched up. I kinda scratched my project though so I don't have any long term results. I will probably use marine ply in the future. The 1/8" just seemed so thin after bulding 1/4" thick strippers. I found building on the cheap fun but I couldn't really bring my self to put all that expensive epoxy and fiberglass over less than $20 in hull materials. If I really needed a boat on the cheap I probably would have though.
