: Overall width of the boat has a lot to do with stability, too. I see you
: linked the terms "Narrower" and "more rounded". I
: don't want to get into some frivolous word analysis, but I think you
: express the common perception that rounded hull boats are also narrower.

Word analysis is good. I should have written "narrower OR more rounded" tend to be leaned more easily.. I have boats from 20-25 inches wide and with a wide variety of very hard chine to well rounded/ovaled.
You're right, the hull cross sections vary independently of the width.

My point was that paddler size, build, weight distribution, paddling skill and aggressiveness have as much to do with the kayak performance as the variations in hull design alone.

With sufficient rocker you can turn a boat in it's own space. No edging or
: tipping needed. How much faster can you get? That applies to both round
: and hard chine boats.

Agreed but since much more of my sea kayaking paddling is spent tracking/cruising rather than turning, especially abruptly, I don't want a lot of rocker.

I've enjoyed and learned from your building posts. One thing I haven't seen asked is whether one can build a strip boat from strips of 4mm okoume or is it to flexible? Would it work if glassed on both sides? Any ideas?
