: I built a pair of 7'3" JAM 8 kayaks from 1/8" LUAN door skins w a layer of 6 oz cloth . I also just completed cutting and scarfing a couple more sheets of the stuff for a 11'9" double paddle canoe. (This one will see a layer of ( leftover) glass/epoxy as well.) No voids in all those cuts. FWIW, those little yaks were used and abused by a pair of young boys for over 4 years and have still held up.
To date, I've got nothing but good stuff to say about the stuff. Still though, if i was going to spend a 100+ hours on a nice/expensive project, I think, I'd opt for the Okume as it has more layers and is less brittle when stressed. Worse case, I'd probobly go Luan but plan on adding a little extra weight w some glass.
