Wet sanding helps lubricate the paper/surface and wash away the residue as you work. I've never been an advocate of working any power-tools around water, but "IF" you are careful, just rinsing the surface as you go, the sander might be just fine. Don't go crazy spraying it off or you will get water inside the sander and ........ well, ...... at the least, you will be buying a new sander. Watch where the run off goes and where you are standing. Good Luck!
