Brion, I installed t-nuts with 4 2"strips of 2" unidirectional carbon tape, don't ask me why, it was there. Cut the tangs off, drill the yakima rails out 3/8", push the t-nut barrel through three of the strips of tape spread apart in equal angles, attach the t-nut to the rail with a greased screw through a piece of 4mm 2" diameter ply and plastic pressing onto the nut and carbon, slather with slightly thickened epoxy, lay the last piece of carbon over the nut so it lays between the nut and the sanded hull. Put rail into place with hull on side and lay a couple bricks on the rail. When it all cures unscrew the rail, pull it off, pull off the ply and plastic. You could probably just use two layers of tape with on on the back but I can't help the excess. Messier and more time consuming than a piece of wood but it looks cool.
