I wanted to do the same (make seat removeable) so I used velcro too. I got some of the self adhesive stuff at WalMart, cut it, put it down and it is still there. I put it on in May and I have used the kayak a great deal since then. The adhesive that is on it seems to be very strong.

: After a few dozen soakings the strips of velcro are coming loose.
