The local Sam's Club (outlet side of Wal-mart) had boxes of self adhesive velcro in the office supplies aisle. The box was marked to indicate that this stuff had a higher strength adhesive on it. Inside the box was a roll of velcro that was 2 inches wide and I believe 20 yards long, with a few extra "dots" in the package as a gimme. As I recall the price was just under $14 for the box.

So, there is a higher strength adhesive version out there, all you got to do is find some locally.
